looking for the most polished, slick presentation; 'interesting' is the important criterion i.e. something that will grasp the attention of a canoe sailor and/or the newcomer to our sport. It can be in a variety of forms, written, spoken (to the audience at the winter meet), pictorial, video, or a combination of any of these. Perhaps you have already had something published in a magazine/newsletter. Please don't be shy in coming forward as hopefully all the entries will provide us with ideas and a different perspective on canoe sailing.
The deadline for entries: I suggest that anyone wishing to enter should inform a member of the committee two weeks before the winter meet, and if at all possible let him/her have a copy of the entry - if it's on paper or can be sent by email - so that the judges can begin their work in good time.
The judges: Not yet decided, but probably the committee plus two others, excluding entrants.
The trophy: WarinK has been asked to design it. He has submitted a design but cannot be expected to have it ready by the 27th Jan. A handshake and a round of applause will have to suffice in the meantime.
Isn't this a bit rushed? Yes, but the committee felt that we should press on whilst Bernard's friendship, good humour and friendly face is fresh in our minds. And let's not be overly serious about this, after all it's meant to generate interest, enjoyment and even fun.
Message From Retiring Editor (RoyB)
As you probably already know, this is the last GOSSIP for which I am responsible. After six years at it I feel I am running out of inspiration. I have gained great satisfaction from the job, especially on opening the monthly brown envelope to see the final paper version. DaveT, in charge of printing and distributing for almost the same length of time (ever reliable, he was a pleasure to work with) expressed surprise when I told him that I wanted the printed version, as I'd already got it on computer file. But I wanted to see and feel the final result of my labours. My intention, not always achieved, has been to provide an 8-page publication, initially because it had always been so, but latterly because I felt that members who can only come to few, if any, meets deserve as much for their subscription of over £20 (now £30). I know that some members have told me: "If you've only got enough for 4 pages, then produce 4, that's OK." Well, I think that possibly eleven 4-page newsletters annually for £30 is not OK. So please support the new editor, NigelC, in this important post. It's a substantial commitment and I wish him all the best. I hope he derives as much satisfaction from it as I have. And MalcolmC, Dave's replacement, is doing his best to help in getting electronic GOSSIP off the ground.
I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to GOSSIP over the last 6 years, with text and photos. I'm not going to mention any individual, but I'm sure you are aware of those who have given a lot. See you next year.

It is very simple; no contributions mean no GOSSIP. Many members get just the GOSSIP for their money, as they attend no meets. I only hope I can at least attain the standard Roy has set so the club continues to get their money. As usual, there will be no January edition so the deadline for the next edition will be Tuesday, the sixth of February, 2007. This will give you all time to report on the AGM, dinner and any sailing.
Appeal For Gossip Back Numbers (RoyB)
As editor of this publication, Nigel would like to have a full set of back numbers so that he can refer back to previous articles. If you think you can help him in this, please get in touch with him by email or phone. Thank you in advance.
