Classic Canoe Meet (GrahamH)
It would be splendid if you could organise a meet where there were some classic canoes, if there are any, or replicas. Somewhere - it may have been at the Clyde Sailing Club - I saw a photo of a replica of a Victorian sailing canoe that had been built fairly recently.
Lake District Survey (KeithM)
Just a quick note to raise awareness of - and to encourage you to complete - this survey. There is a possibility of the authorities introducing a fee for all boats, including canoes and kayaks etc., to use the big four Lakes in the Lake District. Here's a bit of background, the authority's "party line" about it (no longer available) and the survey (also no longer available). [But don't fill it in if you are going to say it's a good idea for canoes to pay fees!! Well that's my view anyway! Let just power boats alone pay - like they always have!] I've just realised that when I filled it in I didn't suggest that electric-powered vessels should not pay a fee - perhaps you could do that in Q19?
(By the time you get this the survey should have closed. DaveP made a very impassioned speech at Ambleside saying that since the 10mph speed limit there were few powerboats and revenue was very low. They may as well try to charge us to walk the fells or the streets of Windermere. - Ed.)
Steam-Powered Canoe (AndyW)
Don't know if you remember having a conversation regarding a canoe powered by steam but I came across this German website that may be of interest to you. Probably the most informative website for German folding canoes, with a good sailing section. Google's language tool does a good job at the translation.
Paper Gossip (JeremyT)
Like most people, I suppose, I have days when I wake up feeling, well… less than positive. On this morning in particular I went down to make a pot of tea to take back to bed. The post had arrived and guess what - my Gossip had arrived. Back in bed for half an hour, I just felt all excited and back on form as I read the flimsy journal. It might not be rocket science but it was just nice. Please keep it on old-fashioned paper, not email. Glued to the PC at work, it's the last thing I want to look at while relaxing in bed.
Venue List Disappointment (TerryB)
Bit disappointed with the 2007 venue list. It does seem a bit biased towards the North. Surely another Rutland could have been squeezed in the middle of the year in place of Bala perhaps, which is a pig to get to. Cumbria is bad enough to get to but Scotland! Denham Lake (off M4 junction 1) looks ideal for perhaps my 'local' venue. Not too far and a daily charge.
Iceberg Trophy - A Dubious Honour (PennyO)
Saturday afternoon, fine weather, snow on the mountains and the lake beckoning. Peter and I left
